An Asian elephant has become the first of its species in the UK to become pregnant by artificial insemination, a zoo said today. Keepers of Noorjahan at Twycross Zoo, in Leicestershire, said the procedure had been 'incredibly successful' and the baby is expected in August next year. Our Sophie gave birth to huge bouncing baby bull, last Thurday 9th October. He is strong healthy and Sophie has plenty of milk. As this is her third calf in semi-captivity. The Bull that mated with her was a wild bull, which had everyone running for two weeks, so its a wild and new bloodline. The trainers have named him JUMBO after the late sweet Sondelani Jumbo.
